I KEEP MY ANSWERS SMALL AND KEEP THEM NEAR
BIG QUESTIONS BRUISED MY MIND BUT STILL, I LET
SMALL ANSWERS BE A BULWARK TO MY FEAR
THE HUGE ATTRACTION- "I KEEP FROM THE LIGHT"
SMALL THINGS I HANDLED AND CARESSED AND LOVED,
I LET, THE STARS ASSUME THE WHOLE OF THE NIGHT
BUT THE BIG ANSWERS CLAMOURED TO BE MOVED
INTO MY LIFE.
THEIR GREAT AUDACITY
SHOUTED TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED AND BELIEVED
EVEN WHEN ALL SMALL ANSWERS BUILD UP TO
PROTECTION OF MY SPIRIT I SHALL HEAR
BIG ANSWERS STRIVING FOR THEIR OVERTHROW
AND ALL GREAT CONCLUSIONS COMING NEAR
- Elizabeth Jennings
Summary:

In the poem, the poet says that she always stays good with short answers and always keeps them near. While the Big answers always hurt her, as they require more attention and thinking, they become harder to ignore and forget. Poet also says that to dodge the contest of big questions (like pain, hardships, and life decisions), she gets attraction from light as they never come out from the darkness of her mind. Poet also says that she loves the short answers like their fellow whom she loved and cared for. Coming to an end, she describes that she is struggling with the harsh truth of their life. Although the comfort of their all short answers gives relief to their soul, the big answers are not leaving her alone.
