The soul of poet gatherings, poetic events, and mushairas, Rahat Indori, this was a renowned name in the industry of Urdu Gazals and sayaries, Dr. Rahat Indori won the heart of millions with their lovely and heart touching Gazals and sher over 40 years.

Dr Indori was the man who spends more than 50 years of their life in the service of Urdu Poetry and Mushairas across the globe. He entertained and taught the values and understanding of life with the legacy of his poems.

So, before making any arguments why most people are annoyed with Rahat Indori, it is better to know about his background and what kind of life he spent, and what were the challenges in life, and after knowing these things, we will move through the political beliefs and controversies of Rahat Indori.

Early Life:

Dr Rahat Indori was born on 1st January 1950 in a town named Ranipura in Indore. Rahat Indori was the fourth child of his mother, Maqbool-Un-Nisa Begum, and his father, Rafatullah Khan. The real name of Rahat Indori was "Rahat Qureshi." The early life of Rahat Indori was not going to be so easy, as Rahat's Father was a mill worker, the financial conditions of their family were not good. They were forced to live in a wrecked house. And seeing such financial conditions, Rahat Indori started painting at a very early age to support his family and soon made it his business. Even Rahat completed college with the help of money that he got in paintings. When Rahat Indori was young, he usually used to read Urdu Newspaper. Rahat Indori did his nursery at a local government school at Ranipura. As Rahat was growing, his passion for Urdu also keep growing, he spent most of his teenage in the Bazm-E-Adam library, and it was the same place from where he started his poetic life.

Rahat Indori completed his college from Islamia Karimia College, Indore, and later in the year 1973, he completed his master's in Urdu from Barkhatullah University, Bhopal, with a Gold medal. In 1975, he completed P.hD in Urdu literature from Bhoj University, Bhopal, for his thesis "Urdu mein Mushaira."

Poetic Life: Rahat Indori As a Poet

Rahat Indori made a debut in mushairas when he was called to Lucknow to be a part of a mushaira in 1970. At that time, Rahat was very young and there were many big names in that mushaira but their unique way of reciting the lines of Gazal made an ever-lasting impression in the heart of everyone those were present in that mushaira.

With the beginning of this new chapter, Rahat never looked back, with every poem and every ghazal, he started gaining more and more fame, their popularity started rising day by day, everyone started to participate in mushairas to listen to him. Rahat Indori spent almost 40 years in mushairas across the world. Rahat Indori was so immense in the mushaira, he usually used to stay out from home for 20-25 days. he very often comes to their home. As he got very little time to spend with their family, he once gets astonished to see that his son is now ten years old. So, this was Rahat Indori, who dedicated their life to Urdu literature.

Rahat Indori's poems mainly talk about life issues, looking at natural perspectives, ordinary people's issues, love, romance, politics, and various issues of today. His way of speaking, rhythm and powerful meaning force everyone to listen to him. His poems are good for everyone and every group likes them. Perhaps Rahat Indori's poems are a bit mysterious because people usually interpret them according to their understanding of the world. For Example:

In his viral poem: "Bulati Hai Magar Jane Ka Nahi" (Bulati Hai Magar Jane Ka Nahi) What the poet intends to say, but people of different classes use different ways to explain it. Therefore, this is the magic of his poetry.

Rahat Indori In Politics: Resons For Hate

Indori actually rules Moshaira; it is deliberately ignored by critics and editors of literary magazines because it is not linked to the ideological field nor does it dominate literary lobbying.

The political workers and their followers sometimes interpreted his poetry wrongly, which sometimes put Indori in great trouble, and they had to face great criticism and be blamed for sparking Muslims and promoting Jihad.

Rahat Indori was different from the rest of the other poets; his rebellious, fearless, and brave heart behaviour made him different.

Dr Indori courageously used rhymes, couplets, and poems to criticizing the shifting mood of Indian politics over the last few years since Bharatiya Janata Party came into power, Rahat Indori received a lot of criticism and hate, mostly from the supporters of ruling and anti-muslim parties for inflaming Muslims, even many political tycoons even said that he should leave India.

During a mushaira, he said that- recently he got numerous letters and phone calls from people in which they told him to don't recite those poems, those he used to recite and said recite those, those you don't use to recite. And don't take the name of whose you take and start taking name whose you don't take. The poet also mentioned that during the election days many leaders approach him to appreciate their parties and for collaborating events with money but Rahat always denied it. These things show that Rahat was one of those who always stay on a single commitment and cannot be sold for money.

In the last stage of his life, Indori trolled much for Hindutva, but the reality was something different, those who were close to Rahat Indori know him well; they know that the Rahat Indori was the one whose beliefs and concerns was social rather than communal.

Even Rahat Indori has many powerful couplets and Gazals on patriotism. Rahat Indori even said that Hindustan is his motherland and doesn't need to be patriotic.

His couplets like:

These couplets were nothing in front of the love of Rahat Indori for his motherland.

Although he was not charged with treason, which is a norm nowadays for people expressing their dissatisfaction with the ruling government, his poetic rebel provided expression to many activities. He was also not happy with the Citizenship Amendment Act,2019, because the law doesn't have much sense, and also the law was much more discrimination against minorities. Rahat was not happy with the policies of the current ruling party, and as the media and other platforms were not showing the real truth, he thought to put the real truth to the public with their poetry. Some groups also tried to shut his mouth with money and manipulate what he should say. But it was Rahat Infori who continued to reciting with the same courage and confidence.
It has no doubt that in the last 5 years of his life, Rahat mostly recited political poems and mainly targeted the current ruling party "Bharatiya Janta Party" and their leaders but I think the intention of Rahat Indori was clear when he saw that media is not showing the appropriate information instead misleading the public, so Rahat took this responsibility on himself and started telling the actions of the government to the people through his poems with his opinion as well.
The poet had to face hate and had to see himself as the target of political supporters and anti-muslim organizations. But the Political beliefs of Rahat Indori were very clear; he was never a Muslim favoured, he was the true sign of an Indian. The laws that he thought should not be implemented, he criticized that. Both Hindus and Muslims used to listen to him; even Hindus were the major listeners of Rahat Indori.
So as conclusion, we can say that those who weren't had much courage to face the real truth and understood what is good for the nation and those who were blind followers were most unhappy with Rahat Indori.
I think Indian Politics and its followers should leave their fanatic behaviour towards a single party and think more about the nation.

Death:

After the appearance of the initial symptoms of COVID-19, Dr. Indori was admitted to Aurobindo Hospital, Indore, on 10 Aug 2020; after undergoing corona test, Dr. Rahat Indori was found corona positive, the poet itself shared this information by a tweet on 11 Aug 2020. Dr. Indori was a cardiac and sugar patient from before. After admittance of Dr. Indori, the doctor said he had two severe heart attacks; and due to these regular heart attacks and damage of lungs by COVID, Dr. Indori died on 11 Aug 2020 due to a cardiac episode.
After the demise of the poet, all political leaders and contemporary poets expressed their condolences and emotions.
Although Dr. Indori is not physically between us but his poems will live forever with us.

The Pulley by George Herbert. Know the line by line Explanation , Theme And Summary of the Poem.  The Pulley:- When God at first made man, Having a glass of blessings standing by; Let us (said he) pour on him all we can, Let the worlds riches, which dispersed lie, Contract into a span. So strength first made a way, Then beauties flowed, then wisdom, honour, pleasure, When almost all was out, God made a stay, Perceiving that alone of all his treasure; Rest in the bottom lay. For if I should (said he); Bestow this Jewell also on my creature, He should adore my gifts instead of me; And rest in Nature, net the God of Nature, So both should losers be, Yet let him keep the rest, But keep them with repining restlessness; Let him be rich and weary; that at least, If goodness leads him not, vet weariness; May tossed him to my breast. - G. Little Things: Poem Little Drop of water Little grains of sand Makes the mighty ocean And the pleasant land So the little moments, Humble though they be, Make the mighty ages Of eternity. Thus our little errors, Lead the soul away From the path of virtue Far in sin to stray. Little Deeds of Kindness Little words of love, Help to make earth happy, Like the heaven above.   - J.A.F.
